This homemade facial serum is a wonderful, everyday beauty product that I just love. It combines two incredibly hydrating oils, along with some of my favorite essential oils, to help boost the look and feel of your skin.
The base of this serum is jojoba oil and rosehip seed oil, both of which have amazing benefits for the skin. Then we add in some beautifying essential oils to make this serum even more amazing. Here's a look at the ingredients and the benefits of each:
Jojoba oil: As I mentioned earlier, jojoba oil is deeply moisturizing, but it also has the ability to actually lock the moisture into the skin, so your skin continues to feel hydrated all day long. Jojoba oil also acts as a barrier and products your skin from external elements, and it's anti-bacterial so it helps with acne.
Rosehip Seed Oil: The main thing I love about this oil is that it repairs and regenerates the skin so it helps you look extra glowy. It also helps protect from the sun, is brightening and is also anti-aging. It's an amazing oil!
Frankincense Essential Oil: It's a little on the pricey side, but this oil totally worth it. There are loads of incredible benefits, but for the skin in particular, Frankincense is anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and the smell is very uplifting and helps improve spirits.
Carrot Seed Essential Oil: This has a slightly funky smell I'm not going to lie, but it's great for the face. It helps with wrinkles and fine lines as well as boosts water retention, so it helps give your skin that soft, dewy look.
Lavender Essential Oil: Hands down my favorite oil of all time, there are a million and one ways to use lavender, but for the skin it's great because it helps fight acne and scarring, and the smell is calming and improves concentration.
Geranium Essential Oil: The last in our mix, geranium is wonderful because again, it's one of those oils that helps with acne, but it also helps to balance hormones and emotions. It's a great oil to round out the serum.
And what I love about DIY facial serums is that they couldn't be easier to make. You just need your base oils, essential oils and dropper bottles. I bought my dropper bottles on Etsy, but there are also loads on Amazon to choose from.

Hi. Where i can get those facial serums?
You can find everything online or from a natural food store.
Hi,
Really want to try this serum but I don’t have carrot oil, can you recommend oils that would make a good substitute please?
Thanks
It really depends on your skin! I think jojoba is great, chia seed oil, or even sweet almond oil can work weel!

Suitable for which skin type is this?
Combination!
I’m supersensitive to fragrances…synthetic or natural, does not matter.. Floral is worst, but strength is also a problem. Especially when on my face, and close to my nose… it’s a migraine waiting to happen. Can this be made without the essential oils, or are there other non floral and mildly scented ones that I could consider which might still be beneficial?
Absolutely! Lavender could be a good thing, or just leave them out 🙂
Where i get the lavender essential oil?
How do you know how many drops to add per oil. I wanted to include copaiba and bergamot but I haven’t been able to find a rule of thumb for dilution for each oil. I also want to do a toner. Any suggestions.
I would say about 5 for this amount!
Hi, I would like to know if this serum is suitble for all skin types?
If you’ve tried this oil on your face before, then it should be totally fine!

Just wanted to say thank you for the diy videos. I found them on Youtube when I was looking for some things to put in a goodie bag for my 40th reunion. I made 30 sets of the honey cinnamon mask, facial serum, bath salt and solid perfume. I’ve been using them myself and especially love the facial serum and perfume. Just a suggestion would be to let us know specifically when and how to use the items. Thank you!
Thank you SOOO much! I love this 🙂 I’m thrilled you enjoyed them! And yes, I’ll definitely do a post about how to use facial oils 🙂
This sounds so good! My question is how and when do you apply this? Are you just rubbing in all over the face before applying moisturizer or in place of? Thank you!!
Yep, that’s right!
Hi, I found this while researching DIY serums as part of the Korean Skin Care Routine. Thought I might mention that as serums are a specific step, if you are interested in looking at it.
Thanks for sharing!

I use the exact same Rosehip oil in my skin cream! I made a facial serum with jojoba, rosehip oil, pumpkin seed oil, and little bergamot and a little lavender oil. My combo skin loves it. I love that Rosehip oil!
Oh that sounds amazing!!!
Loving this site, my question is using jojoba, almond, argon, and frakensense together ok to mix? Vmkeller
Honestly? It depends on your skin and skin type. I’d say you’ll have to give it a try and see how you do with it 🙂 Everyone is different and what may work for me, may not work for you!
Hi! Wondering where you get your rosehip and jojoba oil?
I got mine on Amazon!
I want to make this serum but can you say if it’s fine to add more oils? I am thinking of mixing Juniper and Rose oil with it(5drops juniper and 5 rose oil).
Sure! As long as you now that those oils are safe for your skin (they need to be therapeutic grade), then by all means!
Made this and love it!!! I use it at night by patting 4 drops all over face and then 4 more drops with extra attention in eye area. I finish by patting multiple times all over my face. This helps to keep acne and wrinkles away :).
Hooray! I love it so much too!!
Will this serum work in a roller ball bottle?
It should, yes!
Hello i just want to know your comment, i use argan oil, lavender, rosemary, peppermint, sometimes i put teatree too. i apply in the morning and got to work. Is it save to use it in the morning? Because we can’t use EOs like lemon oil for daytime.
Those all should be!
This sounds great! Do you apply it to a cottonball to apply?
I just drop it right on to my palm and than pat it onto my face 🙂
This serum looks great! Just wondering do you also use a moisturiser or is the serum enough?
It depends on your skin! I sometimes use both, other times just a serum 🙂
What size dropper bottle should I get to make this?
I think they were 2 ouces!
Hi Alyssa!
I’m so glad I found your blog! I have mature skin that’s prone to blemishes and I know the rosehip causes me to breakout. Can I use the Jojoba, Frankincense, Lavender and Geranium but replace the rosehip and Carrot Seed oils with tea tree and argan oils? If so, do you think I could use the same measurements or experiment to see what works?
Thank you!!
Anita
P.S. I’ve been looking at the cookie and smoothie recipes and they look delicious.
Yes I think so!! I really think you just need to play around with a blend that works best for you skin type 🙂 xox

Really excited to try this!! Would you recommend just using this at night? Or the morning as well?
I think either would be totally fine! I LOVE using oils both morning and night 🙂
Do you use this in the AM or PM?
I like it for PM!
Just made this. I skipped the geranium, although it’ll help my acne, because I don’t have it at hand. Fingers crossed that it’ll still work! Thanks for sharing. <3
Can’t wait to hear how you like it! xo
Are you an Aromatherapist? I see you use young living. Are you aware that they had spearmint adulteration and didnt clean it up?
I’m not, but I do like their oils!
So excited to try this! I’ve been wanting to make my own facial serum for quite a while (as the ones you can buy are just so expensive). Thank you for this post!
2 questions: how do you apply your serum, and do you do it before or after moisturizing?
Thanks!
Can’t wait to hear what you think! I apply mine at night after washing my face and before anything else 🙂
Hello, thank you for sharing this recipe! I’m really excited to try facial oil mixes because I’ve heard fantastic things about them! I will definitely be trying this one 🙂 I do have a question though- could this recipe potentially be too harsh on sensitive skin? What would you consider a safe essential oil/base oil dilution to start with so I can work my way up? Thank you <3
I think this one would be totally fine for sensitive skin. I have fairly sensitive skin myself and this works wonders!
Elemi oil is one oil that you can mix w
Ith jojba oil or argan oil for sensitive skin add a few evening primrose drops and it will be wonderful.
let me know if you want to experiment using organic quinoa shells. The saponin and the protein would be nourishing and cleaning. I can send you some! Have 2 trucloads 😉
Sergio
I LOVE this post – I’ve been using face oils lately and I find that they’re much better for my dry skin than lotion or cream. I will definitely be trying this out!! 😀
Yay!! Let me know how it turns out 🙂 xo
