Banana Milk

Sweet, creamy Banana Milk is a nostalgic treat that literally whips up in a few minutes. You just need 2 ingredients!

If you’re of a certain age, you probably remember the tins of Banana Quik that they sold at the grocery store. This banana milk recipe is like that, but with REAL banana instead of a banana flavored powder. It tastes so much better and you don’t even need the sugar!

Why You Need to Try This Banana Milk Recipe

This homemade banana milk is simple and so delicious. Here’s why you should give it a try!

  • TWO ingredients. That’s all you need for this banana milk recipe! You might even have all the ingredients you need in your kitchen right now.
  • Fun flavor. It’s sweet, creamy, and has a subtle banana taste. Kids will love it, but you will too! (This Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie is another kid-friendly favorite.)
  • So easy to make, there's no reason not to. Let’s go!

What You’ll Need

There are two essential ingredients and then a few optional ones. Scroll down to the recipe card to find the ingredient quantities and recipe instructions.

  • Banana – Frozen banana adds creaminess and natural sweetness to the recipe. As with Banana Bread, the riper the banana, the more sweetness and banana flavor you’ll get in your banana milk.
  • Liquid – Use water or plant milk for a vegan version, or make it the authentic Korean way with dairy milk.
  • Optional add-ins – Maple syrup or honey, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon.

How to Make Banana Milk

Here’s a quick overview of the steps for making this recipe.

  • Combine. Add the banana and liquid to your blender.
  • Blend. Turn it on and blend on high until the mixture is completely smooth.
  • Serve. Drink right away!

Tips and Variations

Here are some additional tips and variations you can try with this banana milk recipe.

  • Make sure it's totally smooth. To ensure a smooth and creamy texture, make sure to blend the banana and liquid for at least 30 seconds on high speed. You don’t want chunks of frozen banana in there!
  • Add some protein. Add in a scoop of your favorite protein powder before blending. Vanilla or unflavored would be best.
  • Peel your bananas before freezing them. I also like to break them in half or quarters so they’re easier for my blender to puree.

Ways to Use This Recipe

You can pour it into a glass and sip it, but that's not the only way to enjoy your homemade banana milk! You can use it to make overnight oats (like my Peanut Butter Overnight Oats) or hot oatmeal, try it in your chia pudding (it would be great for Vanilla Chia Pudding), or even use it in your cereal.

How to Store

  • Refrigerator: Transfer any leftover banana milk to an airtight bottle or container and store it for 2 to 3 days. Shake or stir it before using.
  • Freezer: Freeze banana milk in an airtight container, freezer bag, or ice cube tray. It will keep up to 3 months; thaw in the refrigerator before using.

Notes

  • For the traditional version: traditional korean banana milk uses cows milk, so if you want a rich, creamy banana milk, use that for your base.
