There are days when I want to load up my morning smoothie with greens and superfoods. (Those days are when I make my Favorite Green Smoothie!) Then there are days when I want to keep it simple and for those mornings, this peanut butter banana smoothie is my go-to. It tastes like a treat, but it still packs in some serious nutrition and satisfaction!

Why This Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie Is a Regular in My Rotation

Spoiler alert: it’s quick, nutritious, and made with just a few simple ingredients you probably already have on hand!

  • An EASY smoothie. Since there’s not a lot of fruit to prep and wash, this peanut butter banana smoothie is ideal when you need to get out of the door fast or when you’re too bleary-eyed to spend a lot of time on breakfast.
  • Classic flavor combo. The combination of peanut butter and banana is a classic that’s always delicious—and it’s super kid-friendly too. (You'll also love my Banana Peanut Butter Energy Bites!)
  • Satisfying. With the peanut butter, chia seeds, and protein powder, this smoothie packs in plenty of protein so it will keep you full and power you through your day!

What You’ll Need

The ingredient list is short and sweet! Scroll down to the recipe card to find the ingredient quantities and recipe instructions.

  • Bananas – You can use fresh or frozen. If you like your smoothies with a thick, milkshake-like consistency, go with frozen!
  • Creamy peanut butter – I use natural peanut butter that only contains peanuts and salt.
  • Chia seeds – If you’re not a fan of the texture (like in chia pudding), don’t worry—these will get blitzed in the blender. Hemp seeds would also work.
  • Vanilla protein powder – Optional, if you want a peanut butter banana protein smoothie.
  • Unsweetened almond milk – Or another milk you have on hand or like to use in smoothies.

How to Make a Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie

You know the drill! There’s not much to making this peanut butter banana smoothie.

  • Combine. Add all the ingredients to your blender. If you don’t have a high-speed blender, add the milk first because this will help keep the blade from getting stuck.
  • Blend. Blend on high until the mixture is smooth and serve.

Tips and Variations

Here are a few helpful tips and variations for this peanut butter banana smoothie.

  • Thicken it up. If you want a thicker smoothie but you’re using fresh banana, you can throw in a handful of ice cubes.
  • Add another layer of flavor. A pinch of cinnamon or a splash of vanilla extract (if you’re not using the protein powder) will add some more depth to the flavor of your smoothie.
  • Make it chocolatey. Use chocolate protein powder instead of vanilla.
  • Transform it into a smoothie bowl. Add half the milk, then pour the smoothie into a bowl. Top with granola, sliced bananas, and a drizzle of honey.

Serving Suggestions

I like to pair this smoothie with another quick grab-and-go breakfast option like Cinnamon Muffins, Salted Caramel Energy Bites, or Blueberry Acai Granola Bars. If you have more time, serve it with Cottage Cheese Eggs for extra protein in your breakfast!

How to Store Leftovers

  • Refrigerator: This smoothie is best enjoyed fresh, but you can store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a day. Give it a good shake or stir before enjoying.
  • Freezer: You can also freeze this smoothie for up to 2 months. Just transfer leftovers into an ice cube tray and once frozen, pop them out and store in a freezer-safe bag. When ready to enjoy, blend them with a splash of almond milk until smooth and creamy.
