This cantaloupe melon smoothie has a really unique and fun flavor combo. It's light, healthy and a great way to use up some summer produce that might be hanging around! Plus, the protein powder, banana, and flax meal make it filling enough to be a legit meal—no rummaging in your desk drawer for a granola bar mid-way though your morning!

Why You’ll Love This Cantaloupe Melon Smoothie Recipe

  • Thick like a milkshake. I’m all about creaminess! I like thick smoothies that I can slurp through a straw or even eat with a spoon. (Hello triple berry smoothie bowl!) Better still if they can hold up with a little granola on top. This cantaloupe melon shake delivers!
  • Sweet and summery. This is the ultimate summertime smoothie! It makes a super refreshing afternoon snack and a perfect light breakfast.
  • Loaded with freshness. This green smoothie was totally inspired by the farmer's market. There was so much amazing produce that I went a little overboard and that's precisely where this melon smoothie came to mind.

What You’ll Need

Scroll down to the recipe card to find the ingredient quantities and recipe instructions.

  • Spinach – Or use kale, which adds a stronger “green” flavor than mild spinach.
  • Fresh mint – Fresh mint and other soft herbs like basil and cilantro are fabulous in smoothies!
  • English cucumber – A garden cucumber is absolutely fine too, I just like that English cucumbers have fewer seeds.
  • Frozen cantaloupe – Although this is a cantaloupe melon smoothie, you can definitely try another variety. As long as it’s ripe and sweet, you’re good!
  • Banana – You can use a whole banana for an extra-thick smoothie, or just add half.
  • Vanilla protein powder – Any brand you like. Vanilla adds a creamy flavor to this melon smoothie, but an unflavored protein powder works too.
  • Flaxseed meal – Gives your smoothie a boost with some extra fiber and healthy fats!
  • Cinnamon
  • Almond milk – Or your milk of choice.
  • Ice
  • Splash of water

How Do You Pick a Ripe Cantaloupe?

Look for melons that feel heavy for their size, which is a good indicator of juiciness. The skin should have a raised, net-like texture, and the color should be a creamy beige rather than green. The blossom end will have a sweet, fragrant aroma and when you press gently on the opposite end, it should give slightly.

How to Make a Cantaloupe Melon Smoothie

  • Assemble. Add the contents to a blender in the order listed in the recipe card.
  • Puree. Blend on high until smooth and creamy.
  • Serve. Garnish the cantaloupe melon smoothie with mint and serve immediately.

Tips for Success

  • Use a ripe, sweet cantaloupe. This is the key to a flavorful smoothie. If your cantaloupe isn't very sweet, try adding a little honey or maple syrup to taste.
  • Don’t forget to freeze the melon. Frozen fruit gives you a thick, creamy, and frosty smoothie.
  • Pack in the greens. Don't be afraid to add extra spinach or kale for even more nutrient-packed green goodness.

  • Add a protein boost. Add a scoop of Greek yogurt for even more protein.
  • Switch up the herbs. Basil would also be fantastic with the flavors in this cantaloupe melon smoothie.
  • Top it. Sprinkle on some granola, chia seeds, hemp hearts, or shredded coconut.

How to Store Leftovers

Pour any leftover cantaloupe melon smoothie into an airtight container or mason jar, leaving as little air as possible at the top. Refrigerate and drink within 24 hours for the best quality. If you notice separation, simply give it a good shake or stir it to recombine.

Can I Freeze This Recipe?

Absolutely! Pour the smoothie into ice cube trays and freeze until solid. Once frozen, pop the smoothie cubes out and store them in a ziplock bag or an airtight container in the freezer. When you're ready for a quick smoothie, just blend the cubes with a little bit of water or your milk of choice until smooth.
